[DISCUSSION] Vintage DESCENTE cyclewear - A case for the branding origins of OFF-WHITE

Seeing as I haven't found any discussion across the internet linking what I think is an interesting resemblance, I thought I would post here and see what you all think.A couple of weeks ago, I was thrifting and came across this shirt. Now I'm an avid cycler and this tickled my fancy for not only its beautiful design but for its' Japanese cycle-wear origins. I was also immediately struck by the similarity to what has now become synonymous, with the brand Off-White, that is the diagonal line motif and arrows most commonly seen across a range of Off-White products like this.Given Off-white being in the news recently for trademarking those diagonal lines it was interesting to find them here, beside a logo of arrows so similar to its own. A peculiar coincidence. So I looked a little more and what I found was surprising. Japanese sportswear company, Descente, manufactured an array of cycling jerseys from the 1970s to early 80's that all included the same diagonal line motif across all their sleeves with of course their trademark arrow logo beside it. You can do your own research but this is an album I created of my own shirt and ebay listings for "vintage descente cycling". It's just interesting that before Off-white those diagonal lines were most certainly synonymous with Descente cycling jerseys. I feel its almost too similar for it to be mere coincidence so I'm curious to hear what yall think. And honestly those cycling jerseys are cool as shit. via /r/streetwear http://ift.tt/2oBb6On
