RHYMING AND STEALING: The history of streetwear can often be connected to the theft and remix of established art and designs. What are some of the greatest examples of artistic theft and logo flips that you've seen?

Others may disagree, but for me streetwear began in the 1980's. These were the glory days of the legendary tailor Dapper Dan of Harlem, New York. When at first turned down from carrying major luxury labels when opening his own clothing store, Dapper Dan made a legendary move that still resonates to this day. He made his name by counterfeiting the famous Louis Vuitton pattern and several other luxury brand logos, using them to create his own original tailored clothing. In doing this, he unmistakably influenced the style of hip-hop and his custom-made apparel was seen in the videos of almost every famous rapper of the era. What are some of the best examples of creative artistic theft in streetwear that you've seen over time? Amazingly, even established luxury houses are finally getting in on the act and are now stealing from streetwear in return. Do you still consider the logo flip cool, where a streetwear brand takes an established logo of another company and makes it their own? How far can a streetwear brand go and at what point does it become simply stealing? via /r/streetwear http://ift.tt/2AgKjzi
