Hailed as master class by grailed, Stone Island has established itself as an iconic brand amongst streetwear enthusiasts as well as the conscious consumer trying to stay cozy. Started in 1982, far before "techwear" was even coined a term, Stone Island pushed simple, military-esque garments to the next level, focusing not on quantity but quality, rarely seen in low-end fashion industry. Despite starting 35 years ago, Stone Island continues to strive, if not pushes harder, for improvements in fabric technology, fabric cuts, and fabric design.Though the idea of "functional" pieces in fashion over "aesthetic" pieces in fashion was hardly thought of when this brand was conceived, Carlo Rivetti not only designed and pursued this project, but teamed up with none other than the iconic C.P. company to create Stone Island. The company's come up can be argued to be much rougher and harder than other companies, serving up high end price points for not very flashy clothes. However, their humble, modest approach to fashion in turn led to famous rappers and models rocking their jackets, shirts, and jeans, in turn catching the public's eye. A small, ahead of its time brand that fought to stay relevant but also lowkey, and be able to make it this far, is anything but iconic of streetwear.Ever since then, this minimalist, industrial, tech centered brand became iconic in not just Italy but globally. If anything, Stone Island has pushed its boundaries even more than before. Seen in their recent shadow project collab with ACRNYM, they accentuated what they already do best, providing the best cuts in fabric, best designs in fabric, as well as best technology in fabric. Their color changing fabric tech, which still seems surreal today, is but a thing of the past for this cutting edge brand.Hailed as master class, Stone Island sees itself standing next to Margielas and Owens, but far from similar in style. And yet, it manages to excel at what it does, also distinguishing itself from similar tech styles like ACW, WTAPS, ARC, etc.On behalf of all Stone Island loyalists, tech wear fanatics, and all street wear enthusiasts, I humbly request the green and yellow compass be added to flair options.reads: http://ift.tt/2BP0dhg via /r/streetwear http://ift.tt/2C7eTwj
