[Discussion] Elitism in r/streetwear...

I've been a lurker in r/streetwear subreddit for a bit. Although this account itself is not that old (there was time when I just looked through Reddit without even having an account) I've been here since the days of around 50,000 fuccbois or less where roaming around just talking and having a good time. It's a good subreddit and still is, I've found brands and indie designers that I would have never even knew existed before.Still r/streetwear isn't perfect and one thing I've noticed a lot recently is the elitism. A growing amount of people in this subreddit seem to think that if it isn't either from a thrift store or a brand that charges over 150 dollars for a t shirt it's bad quality and trash. Those people seem to forget that streetwear never was about expensive fits and spending 400+ on a hoodie that only looks good on 1 or 2 fits. Streetwear came from urban skaters, hip hop heads and surfers in the 80s and 90s clashing together to create a certain type of style. All of the people who were part of early streetwear weren't spending hundreds. All of this isn't saying you shouldn't buy expensive stuff if you have the money. Obviously if you spent more most of the time you'll get better quality and it'll last more. But at the end of the day sometimes cheap/mall core stuff can look the same or even better than the expensive things. But idk maybe this is me just throwing sand into the wind but I wish people would judge the fit not the brand. Instead of dismissing a good cop because they got it from the mall instead of a Japanese proxy or something actually just look past the tag.So yea, this is just something I've noticed maybe you haven't or you think I'm just being over sensitive. Opinions are opinions and I'm just trying to keep us frugal fuccbois in the playing field or something like that. Biggest thing out of all of this judge the fit not the brand please, I'm not forcing you too but it'll be good to have that mindset the next time some guy posts his cop from pacsun. via /r/streetwear http://ift.tt/2bkoNt0
